Highland Tusheti region is located in the northeast of Georgia and is considered one of the most beautiful corners of the country. The Tusheti National Park was opened in 2003 and the main reason was to preserve the nature in its original form. The reserve covers an area of 10.694 hectares, a national park is located on 83.453 hectares and a landscape reserve covers an area of 27.903 hectares.
The most important thing about the Tusheti National Park is the settlements in the park. Until the XX century, the settlements on the territory were isolated from the rest of the country due to the inaccessibility. Before the construction of the highway, you could get there only by helicopter.
The climate of the mountainous territory is quite severe. It is never hot here, from November and to spring, Tusheti is covered with snow. The National Park is characterized by a rich variety of plants and trees. Most of the park is covered with forests. The fauna of the park includes more than 190 species of birds, mammals, reptiles, fish, and amphibians.
The park is perfect for trekking and camping. 11 tourist routes of different complexity operate on the territory. The routes pass through the natural and historical sights of Tusheti.
