The Kolkheti State Reserve is located on the Kolkheti plain, between the mouths of the Tikori and Supsa Rivers, in the west of the country. According to the legend, the city of Fars where the Argonauts went in search of the Golden Fleece was located on the territory of today’s reserve.
The Kolkheti State Nature Reserve was opened in 1999. It includes 500 hectares of subtropical and tropical forests, with a large variety of fauna. The height of trees in alder groves reaches 40 meters. The woods, the lakes and the rivers look like pictures from a fairy tale.
There are lakes, rivers and swamps on the territory of the national park. The climate is subtropical with high humidity.
The Kolkheti National Park is a popular destination for trekking and horse riding. In recent years it became a popular destination for tourists who visit the park during excursions along the Black Sea coast.
