Mariamjvari Reserve

The Mariamjvari Reserve is located in the east of the country, on the slopes of the Tsivi-Gombori Range. The reserve of 1040 hectares was created in 1935 to protect the environment.

The whole territory of the reserve, more precisely 99% consists of pine, oak and beech forests. 1% of the reserve is occupied by alpine meadows. Because of the mountain relief, the climate of the reserve in the upper parts is quite severe.

The fauna of Mariamjvari is quite diverse. The reserve is home for brown bears, roe deer, wild cats, forest marten, bats, owls, hawks, green woodpeckers and other birds and animals.
