Kobuleti Reserve of Ispani

Kobuleti Reserve of Ispani is located in the Autonomous Republic of Adjara, to the north of the resort town of Kobuleti. The reserve occupies 500 hectares of swampy terrain along the Black Sea coast.

The reserve was opened in 1999. Due to regular heavy rains, the climate is subtropical here. The swamps of Ispani are completely covered with peat moss. Without access to oxygen, peat stays at the bottom of the swamp and does not decompose. The swamps of Ispani are unique because they do not emit dangerous substances and gases.

The swamps are not so rich in vegetation. Rare birds that are included in the Red Book live on their territory. Several routes of different lengths are open for tours in the reserve. During the tour, you can stroll through the marshes in special wooden wet-runners.
