Jikheti Monastery

The monastery of Jikheti is located on the mountain of Nigote, in the village of Jikheti. The monastery was built in honor of the angels Gabriel and Michael. The uniqueness of Jikheti is that the temple was built of stones specially brought from all corners of Georgia.

The monastery of Jikheti was built around the XIX century on the site of a medieval monastery. The main temple is the Church of the Virgin built in 1896. The monastery stores rare valuable frescoes, icons, and inscriptions. In the treasury, there is stored a large cross with golden balls. The cross is decorated with precious stones and painted figures of saints.

Today, the Jikheti temple is a functioning convent and there are 25 abbesses here.
